Description

This is a designer pant with a slight rounded shaped leg that narrows at the hem opening. The dart and front split at the hemline give this pant a unique look. The back is extremely flattering with a centre leg design line that shapes over the bottom and into a one-piece shaped waistband. Wear this pant casually with sneakers and windcheater or dress it up with heels and a blouse.

I like very much this design and the drafting is very good, as is my experience with all Style Arc patterns. I am 1.67 cm tall and I had to lengthen the pattern by 3.5 cm so that it hits exactly above my ankle. Instructions, especially fro assembling the pockets and the fly zipper are confusing, to say the least (I believe they have a couple of errors, too). I would easily give 5 stars for the excellent design but the instructions are really challenging for a beginner sewist! How difficult would be a video on the Style Arc channel for the fly zipper at least?

I’ve made these pants twice now and plan to keep making them! I am going to close up the cute ankle feature on future pairs out of sheer laziness. They make wearing office clothes comfortable and cute. The seam running down the back of the leg is adorable, I want to add in some fun piping the neck time around to make it really Jazzy. I made these in linen and tropical wool. Love Love Love!!!!

I like the shape of the pants a lot and I will absolutely make a second pair, but with quite many adjustments.
I fall between sizes with my hips being maybe even two sizes larger than my waist in the size chart, but I didn’t find the pattern to run true to size either. I sized down on the hips, leaving me with 3 cm of ease on paper, but in reality I had easily 6 cm on one side alone. I obviously had to grade down the waist significantly, but that is more of a me issue and I can’t comment on the pattern.
Style Arck instructions are notoriously useless. I didn’t even bother to look at them, but I have made several pairs of pants with pockets and front zippers before and knew what I was doing. I didn’t follow the pocket pattern and did the pockets my own way. Neither did I use the pattern piece for the waistband.
Overall – it is a very cool shape and I like the pants a lot. I would not reccomend this pattern to someone who is not familiar with sewing front zippers and pockets, though. The pattern allows for easy adjustments.

Love these pants! Made one in cotton poplin and one in linen.
I moved the zipper to the side, and omitted the coin pocket and the belt loops.
Made some personal adjustments , and its the first pair of trousers I’m really pleased with.
Have now bought 2 other trousers patterns from style arc. Love that both seam line and cutting line are included.

Love the look and feel of these pants. I made in twill that is relatively lightweight for summer wear. The back pieces allow simple adjustment the length of the pants which I found really useful. Shape at the hem adds interest. Will make in stretch woven fabric next.

I first have to put together the 50 page puzzle before I can consider making these pants. Don’t think I will order a PDF pattern unless it is perhaps free.

This is a great summer pant/jean, they are cooler to wear than fitted jeans. I made them in a medium weight fabric. The back seam is excellent for fitting if you need to fit the back. I took it in about 5mm gradually from the waist for 23cm. This didn’t alter the look of the design. The bottom detail looks great with summer shoes.

I found the instructions for assembling the coin pocket and pockets very confusing. I have been sewing for many years. And this had me pulling my hair out. I finally sorted out how it all went together.
The slit at the front of pants, I attached bias binding and neatened that way to give a better finish as I didn’t want the edge to start fraying after a couple of washed. I top stitched the back leg steam and also the pocket edges to give a professional finish.
Overall a nice fit but the instructions could have been more in depth to make it a quicker assembly and make.

I made these pants in a stripe lightweight cotton. Love how they turned out, but cannot give 5 stars due to the poor instructions.
First step is to attach coin pocket, but instructions don’t even tell you to turn in and finish the exposed edge. I found the rest of the pocket assembly difficult to follow as well. Nowhere in the steps do they tell you to finish seams with overlock, gather it is just presumed this will be done, but for a new sewer it would be helpful to include this in directions. Topstitching directions are also lacking. I topstitched the back leg seams.
I turned the hem on the leg slit by sewing a 1cm stitch around the curve, clipped to stitching and finger pressed it up before sewing in place. Made a much neater hem.
Overall a great pattern, the tapered leg and back leg seams make for flattering fit.
Just wish style arc would improve their instructions on all patterns!

I really like the look of these pants. I did have to make some adjustments but nothing difficult or out of the ordinary for me. I had to shorten the length of the pants, shorten the rise of the crotch and shorten the front crotch length. My issue was with the directions. I did not like the directions for the fly front. I found them difficult to follow and there are much easier ways. Also the pocket instructions have an error, the picture shows a different way than the written instructions. Follow the written instructions. I also had difficulty with the curved front hem on the pants. I think on my next pair I am going to use bias binding to face the curve. I think it will make a neater finish and hold up better. Also the belt loops were an issue. It was difficult to know which markings to use for the belt loop placement. Once the waistband was done, the beltloops were in all the wrong places. I’m going to back to my tried and true method and put the belt loops in the waist band when attaching to the pants and then lifting the belt loops up and sewing them down at the top of the waist band. Then I know that they are in the right spot. All in all, I got compliments on my pants today and I will definitely make another pair.

I made these up to test the pattern in a mid-weight non-stretch cotton woven fabric and I love them! I sewed darts into the back seams for fitting, and next time I will lengthen the legs slightly. Otherwise the fit is excellent.

I do have a question about the front leg hem slit. Why is it not in the exact middle of the front hem? I am going to change this for my next pair.

How Do I Know What Size I Am?

Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.

  1. When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
  2. Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
  3. When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
  4. You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth

Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.

B. Upper Arm Girth

This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.

C. Bust

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.

D. Waist

This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.

E. Hip

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
