Change up your Montana Dress with these additional pattern pieces. You will receive 4 bodice and 3 sleeve pattern options designed to match the skirt of the original Montana Midi Dress pattern creating over 12 different looks. The Montana skirt pattern is not included in this pack, so you will also need the original Montana Midi Dress pattern.
All sleeve options can be added to bodices A, B or C.
Bodice ‘A’: Boat neck plain bodice with bound armholes.
Bodice ‘B’: ‘V’ neck bodice with bound armholes.
Bodice ‘C’: Frilled stand collar with bound armholes.
Bodice ‘D’: Sleeveless dropped shoulder bodice with buttoned front.
Sleeve 1: 3/4 length sleeve with elastic casing.
Sleeve 2: 3/4 length sleeve with flounce.
Sleeve 3: Elbow length sleeve.
The Montana skirt has slight gathers that fall from a high waist & has in seam pockets.
I made bodice C in viscose challis and it was fairly straightforward though the instructions are a little sparse. The fit at the raised waist is larger than the drawing indicates. The instructions for attaching the sleeve binding were poor (the video tutorial is better). I dislike the narrow seam allowance on style arc patterns especially as I like doing French seams on lightweight fabric (I allowed an extra half-centimetre when cutting out to enable this). There’s not as much fullness in the skirt as I would like and I think it’s a bit cheeky to ask customers to buy an extra pattern in order to get the skirt pattern as well as the extension. However, it’s a useful style that may make again.

I made a couple of Montana midi dresses 2 years ago, and I wear them all the time in our hot humid summers. They’re casual but pretty. One of the things I love about the dress is the slightly high waistline, which on me is almost empire. The extension pack for Bodice B, however, has a longer waistline that I wasn’t sure I liked, so I shortened it to almost match the original. I also loved the full bodice lining on the original, so I created the v-neck of Bodice B in a fully lined version—more sewing, including hand sewing, but the drape in a mid-weight linen is truly lovely. I’m thrilled with this version of the dress.

Love this pattern… made it in a bright raspberry linen. Used the v-neck, short-sleeved, shorter dress length version. Did have to take a full inch out of the back, so it is oversized. I make lots of garments from Stylearc, but my usual size was still way too big. Makes for a casual or night out dress, depending on how to accessorize. And the comfort and cool feeling… lovely.

How Do I Know What Size I Am?
Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.
When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth
Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.
B. Upper Arm Girth
This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.
C. Bust
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.
D. Waist
This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.
E. Hip
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
