CONSTRUCTION:
DOG COAT:
Choose the size of coat you need and cut the patterns. If you are quilting your own fabric, lay the Quilting Template onto the main fabric larger than the dog coat pattern and mark the stitch lines with chalk. Pin the fabric to the wadding. Stitch along the lines to create the quilt.
Place the pattern pieces onto the quilted fabric, take care if there is a directional print. Cut the pattern, mark in notches. Stay stitch around the piece.
Cut the lining and have the Velcro handy.
With RST, sew the collar main and lining together around the top edge 6mm (1/4”). Clip the seams and turn out. Press and stay stitch the bottom edge.
Sew the collar RST to the main body between the notches.
With RST, sew the main coat to the lining 1cm (3/8”), leave a 10 cm (4”) gap at the neck to turn out. Clip the seams and turn out. Press.
Position the Velcro according to the pattern. Make sure the spikey side and the fluffy side will overlap. Sew the Velcro.
Clip any loose threads and press your new dog coat.
POOPY BAG:
With RST, place the circle facing piece onto the main bag as indicated on the pattern.
With chalk, mark a circle around 1.5cm (5/8”) in diameter. Sew around the circle.
Snip an X into the circle up to the stitch. Snip off excess fabric. Turn the circle facing through to the right side, press flat. Sew around the circumference of the circle.
Fold the strap piece in half lengthways RST and sew. Turn the strap out using a rouleau loop turner or safety pin. Put aside.
Place the zip right side down as indicated on the pattern, sew the zip. Turn out and top stitch the zip. Baste the loop, RST, on top of the zip end.
Fold the zip opening end to meet the zip ends and matching notches, sandwiching the loop. Sew the zip opening ends. Clip into the corners then sew the sides, creating the box shape.
Turn out and admire your work.
