CONSTRUCTION:
FRONT WRAP:
Neaten the front seams and hem with an overlocker/serger. You may choose to sew in the jel tape to the front and back necklines at this step. With RST, place the two fronts together, matching A to B. Sew from the side seam as far as the notch. Press the seam open.
Twist one of the front pieces around once and match B to A. Pin into place. Hold your two fronts up or put them on a mannequin to ensure the wrap is sitting correctly. Sew from the side seam as far as the notch. Press the seam open. NOTE: Wrap is right over left.
BACK NECK BINDING:
Sew the back neck binding to the right side of the back neck opening. Understitch on the side of the binding, then double turn to the inside and edgestitch the binding into place.
FRONT TO BACK:
With RST and matching notches, sew the shoulder seams. You may choose to sew in some jel tape to the shoulder seams at this step. Neaten with an overlocker/serger.
Wrap the front neck seam around the shoulder seam, encasing the shoulder bound edge. Sew into place, press the shoulder seam to the front.
Fold the front seams under 2cm (3/4”), and pin into place. Top stitch the front folds, as far as the side seam. Press.
SLEEVES AND HEM:
With RST and matching notches, sew the sleeve to the arm hole. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press towards the sleeve.
With RST and matching notches, pin the back to front at the side seams and under sleeve. The back will be longer at the hem. Starting at the hem, sew the side seam, with the under-arm seam facing the sleeve. Neaten the side seam with an overlocker/ serger.
Wrap the back hem around the front hem and stitch into place. Turn up the back hem 2cm (3/4”), pin, then top stitch into place. Press.
CUFFS AND COMPLETION:
With RST and matching notches, fold the cuff lengthways. Sew then press seams open. With WST, fold cuff with raw edges together. Baste the raw edges together. Using a large gathering stitch, sew two rows of stitching to the sleeve opening, then gather up to the length of the cuff. Pin into place, sew, then neaten with an overlocker/serger.
Trim off any loose threads and carefully press your new top.
