Q & A with Meg
How did you first get into sewing, and what inspired you to start?
My mom also sews garments and quilts, so she taught me how to sew when I was a kid, but I didn’t really take to it until later in life when I moved overseas with my husband in 2011 and didn’t initially have a job. It was the perfect storm of conditions for kickstarting a serious garment sewing hobby: I had a lot of time on my hands, downloadable garment sewing patterns were just starting to become popular, and I was surrounded by beautiful fabrics.
What do you love most about Style Arc patterns? Do you have a favourite pattern?
I love that Style Arc patterns have unique and interesting details, and are very wearable. I don’t know if I could pick one favorite, but a few Style Arc patterns I’ve loved enough to make multiple times include the Estelle Ponte Jacket, Sydney Designer Dress and the Adeline Dress.
What has been your proudest sewing moment or project so far?
This past year I worked on a couple trickier projects that I’m quite proud of: a coat for my husband out of heavy waxed cotton canvas, and a patchwork quilted jacket for myself made out of linen scraps I saved from previous projects!
Any tips or advice you’d like to share with fellow sewists, especially those just starting out with Style Arc patterns?
Choose a simpler design to start out, and use the resources available for support, like video tutorials, if you need it. And remember that the seam allowances sometimes change, so mind your notches, which tell you the seam allowance for each seam!
