I made these in a poly cotton and will be making another pair in a heavier linen. As a paper bag style, it’s easy to adjust the crotch depth. Pattern sizing is a true fit, and the taper is good. When I make them in linen, think I will take some of the back fullness out, and perhaps skip the ties to reduce bulk a bit.

Lovely pattern, didn’t use the cuff but lengthen leg. No other alterations needed, I made the size 12. The instructions aren’t beginner friendly but they are easy to put together if you use a magnifying lens! This is the second pair of pants I have made by Style arc the other pair were the Clare pants which I love.

Great pattern, I have made it up 3 times now. The first time I used a light weight linen, and felt the legs were too tight, so I pulled the seam apart and added a strip down the outside leg, which ended up adding not only extra room, but a bit of style too!
2nd pair I did in a stretch wool check but left off the paperbag waist by cutting the band on the foldline. Worked well.
3rd pair were in a wool check, with no stretch. Ok, but would always opt for a bit of stretch in the fabric or a little extra in the leg in future, especially around the knee area.

Love these pants! Made them true to size and they fit perfectly. Sewn in a red stretch twill suiting (5% spandex) and I get compliments on them every time I wear them out.
I modified the pattern a little bit by tapering the cuff and folding it in half before sewing (so that there’s no hemming), and I was pleased with the result. I also top stitched everything for a more professional look.
Would make again! Maybe with a black crepe for more flow.

Such a great pattern, quick to sew. I don’t find worded instructions the easiest to follow but love the detailed line drawings which help visualise how they are constructed. Super comfortable. I was between sizes so sized up but will size down for my next pair. Highly reccomended!

I made these pants in a wool/cashmere pinstripe left over from making a boyfriend blazer years ago. The size 12 fits well after taking a chunk out of the centre back as usual for my sway back and the pattern works well with the striped cuffs. Worn with the blazer and a simple top I have a modern take on a business suit!
I’m planning to hack another trouser pattern to include the paperbag waist from these.

Wonderful easy common sense sewing! Pant looked lovely…on my friend. I needed a bigger size, as my leg is fuller and I suppose I am accustomed to oversized commercial patterns needing to be taken in. I did not trust the style arc pattern and sized down. Now I know better, and I have happily made myself a true to size pair.

I bought this in a 22, just going on my usual pant size without checking any measurements and they are perfect! I made them in a bold Floral stretch cotton sateen.I really like the fit and style of these pants. I am an experienced sewer so I just made them in my own order without following the instructions, as I found the instructions a little hard to follow. If making again I would tighten the elastic a bit and just extend the leg rather than have the little cuff unless I did use a stripe as pictured.

How Do I Know What Size I Am?
Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.
When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth
Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.
B. Upper Arm Girth
This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.
C. Bust
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.
D. Waist
This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.
E. Hip
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
