How Do I Know What Size I Am?
Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.
- When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
- Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
- When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
- You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth
Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.
B. Upper Arm Girth
This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.
C. Bust
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.
D. Waist
This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.
E. Hip
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.

I bought the Loren Jacket pattern because of the Style Arc autumn capsule plans. It was my first Style Arc pattern that I sewed up and was really pleased with the results. I did feel like there were too many markings on the individual pattern pieces but I used YouTube video sewing tutorials to help me understand the instructions. However, I re-read the instructions after completing my first wearable muslin. Then I realized that the instructions were simple and straight-forward to understand. Sometimes you just have to ignore the hype. If you understand garment construction and have previously made shawl collars, then you will understand how to sew this collar. If not, there are online sewing tutorials. I made my first version – a wearable muslin – out of an orangey-yellow French terry knit. I finished all the seams with bias binding because this material frayed a lot. I am making another 2 versions – one mustard and one bright red – out of wool blend coating fabrics. For these versions, I will be adding a lining and plan to cut the back piece twice so that I can create some back shaping along the centre back seam. I have a full bottom so the back shaping will help smooth the fabric over my bum. I feel like I will be making this jacket on repeat. I love it!

Simple shape with nice collar. I made it in an unlined brushed ponte and inseam pockets. I topstitched the pocket bags to the front and did the same to the facing to hold everything in place. I will make this again, maybe sleeveless as a change.

I made this jacket in a glitzy fabric suitable for evening wear. I lined it as the fabric needed to be lined, I was very happy with the pattern, it went together very well. I had some difficulty with the hems as I hadn’t done this type of garment with lining for a long time, however I eventually found instructions on Y Tube which helped.
An excellent pattern which I will probably use again.

I have made three of these now. Still not happy with the shawl collar but you can’t see the issue. This is a boxy easy to sew pattern and easy to make changes. The third one I made has no collar and was made with a fabric that I made from pinwheel quilt blocks. It is lined with a cozy bambpo quilt natting, quilted, then fully lined. I would love to figure out how to down load pictures. This is a good pattern
