CONSTRUCTION:
BODY, COLLAR & SLEEVES:
With right sides facing sew the front body to the side insert panel, neaten with an overlocker/serger and press towards the front body.
With right sides facing sew the back body to the side insert panel, neaten with an overlocker/serger and press towards the back body.
With right sides facing sew the front and back shoulder seams together, neaten with an overlocker/serger and press towards the back. We recommend sewing a piece of ribbon or tape to this seam to prevent it from stretching.
With right sides facing sew the sleeves into the armholes, matching the notches. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press toward the sleeve.
With right sides facing sew the centre back collar seams together and press the seams open. With wrong sides facing fold the collar in half lengthways. Sew the two raw edges of the collar together, with a stretch stay stitch, to keep in place.
With right sides facing pin the collar to the neckline, matching notches. Once in place sew together using a stretch stitch and slightly stretching the collar as you sew. This will enable the neck to stretch over your head when putting on the dress. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press towards the body.
With right sides facing sew the front and back side seams together, starting at the hemline, sewing up to the underarm and continuing sewing down the sleeve seams finishing at the sleeve hem. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press towards the back.
Neaten the sleeve hem with an overlocker/serger. Turn towards the inside and stitch down with a twin needle topstitch.
MITRED HEM & COMPLETION:
Neaten the entire hem edge of the dress with an overlocker/serger.
To sew the mitred corners, follow these steps:
Mark your hem and vertical seam points, we have just done this by pressing the foldlines.
Overlock/serge your hem edge, vertical seam edge and the diagonal edge that will become your mitred corner.
Lightly press your new dress.
