CONSTRUCTION:
CENTRE FRONT AND BACK SEAMS POCKET
With right sides together (RST) and matching notches, sew the centre front seam and the centre back seam. Neaten the seams with an overlocker/serger, press to one side, and edgestitch the centre front and centre back seams.
Neaten along the pocket opening edges with an overlocker/serger, fold under at notches, and top stitch to secure into place. Fold under the other four edges 1cm (3/8”) and press. Position the pocket on the front of the suit, matching the corners to the drill holes from the pattern. Pin into position and edge stitch into place, leaving the pocket openings open.
BODY AND FACINGS
With RST, sew the front facing and back facing side seams together. Press the seams open, then neaten the bottom edge with an overlocker/serger.
With RST and matching notches, sew the front and back side seams together. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press toward the back. Edgestitch the side seams.
With RST sew the in-leg seams together, matching at the crotch seams and notches. Sew through from one hem to the other. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press toward the back. Neaten the hems with an overlocker/serger.
With WST, fold the long edges of the loop inwards so that the edges meet at the centre. Check that the loops fit snugly into your side release buckles and adjust width of the loop accordingly. Press and then edge stitch the folded edges to secure into place.
Thread the loop through the socket side of the buckle and sew the ends together firmly. With RST place the loops on the front, matching with the tab notch. Baste into place. Place the elastic straps on the right side of the back, baste into place.
With RST and using a 6mm (1/4”) seam, sew the facing to the top of the suit, matching at the side seams and notches. Clip the seams and corners and turn out to the right side. Check that the elastic and loops are sitting well, press, then edge stitch.
HEMS AND COMPLETION
Sew the hem elastic by overlapping the ends and sewing two short stitch lines perpendicular to the direction of the stretch. Fold the hems to the inside at the notches, insert the elastic loops into the fold, pin to secure, then top stitch the hem. Sew the four buttons to the inside of the hems at the side seam and in leg seam. Turn the ends of the buttonhole elastic under and top stitch to neaten. Button the elastic to the hem buttons.
Clip any loose threads and lightly press your new Puddlesuit!
