CONSTRUCTION:
FRONT TUCKS AND GATHERS:
With the fabric right side up, match the notches at the shoulders, pin. Fold the tucks in the direction of the arrows on the pattern and pin. Baste the shoulder tucks into place.
Sew a large gathering stitch between the notches on the side seams.
MAIN BODY:
With RST and matching notches, pin the front to back at the shoulders. Sew the shoulder seams then neaten with an overlocker/serger, and press to the back.
Neaten around the neck opening with an overlocker/serger.
Fold the front and back neck as one at the notch, aligning the neatened seam onto itself. Pin into place and sew along the seam. Turn the neck out to the right side.
SLEEVELESS OPTION:
Neaten around the arm opening. Turn the edge under 1cm (3/8”), pin into place and topstitch close to the neatened edge.
With RST, pin the front to back at the side seam from under arm to the top notch. Draw up the gather stitch so the bottom notches at the front and back match. Pin into place.
Sew the side seams, and then neaten with an overlocker/serger and press to the back.
Sew a small bar tack to the base of the armhole on top of the seam to secure the armhole opening.
SLEEVED OPTION
With RST and aligning notches, pin the sleeve to the sleeve opening. Sew, then neaten with an overlocker/serger. Press toward the sleeve.
Pin and sew the side seam and under-arm seam, then neaten with an overlocker/serger and press toward the back.
Neaten the hem of the sleeve with an overlocker/serger.
Turn the sleeve hem back 1cm (3/8”), pin into place and topstitch close to the neatened edge. You may choose to use a twin needle.
COMPLETION:Neaten the hem with an overlocker/serger. Turn up the hem 2cm (3/4”) and top stitch close to the neatened edge. You may choose to use a twin needle.
Trim off any loose threads and carefully press your new top or dress!
