Start by sewing the ‘V’ into the front neckline. With right sides facing sew the ‘V’ insert and the body together, start sewing from the neck to the base of the ‘V’. Carefully clip into the ‘V’ on the body then repeat for the opposite side. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press towards the body. Sew a 6mm (¼”) topstitch on the side of the body.
With right sides facing sew the front and back shoulder seams together. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press towards the back.
With right sides facing sew the two short ends of the neckbands together, press the seam open. Turn to the right side and press in half lengthways. Sew a stay stitch to the cut edges of the neckband to hold in place.
Matching the notches, pin the neckband to the neckline, once in place stitch on, stretching the neckband as you sew. The amount of stretch is determined by the stretch component in your knit. Adjust the length of the neckband if necessary. Neaten the neck seam with an overlocker/serger and press.
With right sides facing sew the sleeves into the armholes. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press toward the sleeve.
With right sides facing sew the front and back side seams together, start sewing at the hemline and stitch up to the underarm and continue sewing down to the sleeve opening. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press towards the back.
With right sides facing sew the two short ends of the cuffs together, turn out to the right side and fold in half lengthways. Sew a stay stitch to the two cut edges to hold in place.
With right sides facing sew the cuffs to the sleeve opening, the cuff is slightly stretched on as you sew. Neaten with an overlocker/serger and press towards the sleeve.
Neaten the hem of the body with an overlocker/serger. Turn the hem towards the inside and twin needle stitch with a cover stitch or plain machine stitch.
Lightly press your new top.
