1) How long have you been sewing for and how did you learn to sew?
I have always been interested in sewing from as far back as I can remember. As a teenager I’d make my clothes for my nights out. When I started working, I stopped sewing. I got back to sewing in earnest in 2019, where I decided to learn as much as I could. Social media has opened doors and there is a huge sharing and great sewing community.
2) What comes first… The sewing pattern? Or the fabric?
It’s fabric for me! Since making my own clothes my wardrobe is so colourful
FABRIC! Since making my own clothes my wardrobe is so colourful! I buy fabric because I love it and match it to a pattern later. I love making my own clothes and creating my own look and style.
3) What are your top 3 Style Arc sewing patterns?
The Bob Woven Pant was one of my first and favourite patterns. I also love the Barry Woven Pant and the Hope Woven Dress.
As my skills improve, I have many more planned…. (Your instructions made me hesitant to use your patterns but they are always so well drafted. You have / are changing this and wow it’s awesome)
4) What is the piece of sewing advice that you have received….
That RTW garments have nothing to do with pattern sizes. Measure yourself and look at the amount of ease the garment has. Learn, learn, learn as much as you can!
