We couldnāt go past Sueās āMaker of the Month’ entry of her Tatum Woven Dress.
Sue ( @modelled_by_madge ) provided lots of great tips in her recent post about her process and how she achieved such a great end product of her beautiful dress. As Sue pointed out, this project is intended for a skilled sewist, and creating a toile is essential to achieving this high-quality result. Sue’s meticulous attention to detail and hours spent on topstitching truly elevated this dress. To add to the success of this dress is the perfect pairing of Maai Design‘s fabric, an organic washed denim (215 gsm).
Sue has been gifted a $40 Style Arc voucher as July’s Maker of the Month.

Q & A with Sue
Q 1) How long have you been sewing for and how did you learn to sew?
I started sewing garments in 2017 but Iāve always been able to sew. I basically learned to sew via osmosis, my grandmother Madge was a talented sewist and created beautiful ballet costumes.
Q 2) What comes first… The sewing pattern? Or the fabric?
A bit of both really, I donāt have a very large fabric stash so most of the time it would be the pattern first. Iām a bit of a pattern junkie actually.
Q 3) When did you discover Style Arc Patterns? What are your top 3 Style Arc sewing patterns?
I first discovered Style Arc patterns when I discovered indie and pdf patterns back in 2018. My top three patterns (such a hard question) would be Bob pants, Hope Dress (which holds the award for my most worn item of clothing) and if Iām going by wears, my third would be the Zalia Dress, but If Iām going by which make Iām the most proud of, it would be the Tatum Dress.
Q 4) We adore your sewing room set-up! What hints/tips would you give sewists when setting up their sewing space?
One word – STORAGE. Having a place for all the things you use on a daily basis really helps, I remember my room looked quite empty when I first set it up, so set up with some room for growth if possible. A lot of the time a sewing room will be the smallest room in the house so think outside the box, use your wall space and place your cutting desk in the centre of the room which is often left empty, this way you can move all the way around it when cutting out. You donāt have to spend a fortune, my set up is from Ikea and was quite inexpensive. If you donāt mind losing a week of your life google āsewing room set up with Ikeaā! So much inspo!!
