I love this jacket. It is very stylish! I was able to make size 16 without shortening it (I am 4’10”) and the length was perfect for what I wanted. The fit was great, putting it together went well. I have been asked by several friends to make them one!

This boxy jacket was way too….boxy. I chose the size carefully according to my measurements and past experience with Style Arc patterns, which generally fit really well. I added some extra width to the hips, as I often need, and could have used more. Nevertheless, the shoulder area, and dropped sleeves were a bit overwhelming, in my heavier coating fabric. But even if I had chosen thinner drapey fabric, I wouldn’t recommend the pattern.

The instructions were fairly clear, though a tutorial on inserting the lining into the sleeves would have been helpful.

I wanted to match this slinky burnt orange dress for my daughter’s wedding, and knew I could not buy a jacket to match. So decided to sew one. Needed to be lined for the winter. I found the pattern easy to follow, and made some small adjustments. Didn’t do the sleeve facings, or buttonholes. Sizing is good. It’s a little boxy for the formal occasion, but it will be warm and comfortable.

I liked this jacket but when the pattern arrived, I wasn’t sure about the correct size for me. I’ve had this tweed material for ages and have never known what to do with it so decided to make it up as a test. So from this I have learned:

Next time I’ll make it in the smaller size
This tweed is really hard to work as it frays really easily and sheds bit everywhere
How to make a bound buttonhole

I’ve since bought some fine red woollen fabric and purple lining to make this jacket up again

I love the style of the Adelaide jacket. It looks really stylish and if you change fabrics you could make a couple which would be suitable for different occasions, dressing up or dressing down.

I havent been able to purchase the fabric to start making this as yet but look forward to starting as soon as the suppliers are open again

I cut a size 20 which is my usual size. I omitted my usual FBA due to the large positive ease and that worked out fine. I loved the two piece sleeve which fitted really well and I did not have to do my usual full bicep adjustment which was great. I used a faux suede fabric with Sherpa fleece on the back so I made the unlined version with no facings and bound the edges with homemade bias binding. This was my first time sewing a jacket and it went together really easily. I took my time with the topstitching because of the thickness of the fabric and I am delighted with the jacket. It is a really comfortable, relaxed jacket that I will definitely sew again . You can make this a smarter garment with your choice of fabric and still have comfort and style. Absolutely love it.

The Adelaide Woven Jacket immediately caught my attention upon its release as I had been drawn to various utility style jackets that have become so popular this year. Ultimately, I was looking for a jacket that would allow me to comfortably wear looser fitting tops with more voluminous sleeves (also very much on trend now). Adelaide ticked all the boxes! My personal version – in a slightly drapey mid-weight blue linen/cotton mix – is about 3 inches shorter than the original cropped version, but I did not alter the width. I flat felled all the seams but chose to not line the jacket as I mean to use it in the summer/autumn months. Instead, I finished all inner seams with dark blue binding. Worked like a dream! Hand-stitched all the button holes to give it dome extra love. I have worn it from wedding (with a floral summer dress) to work (with skirts and pants) and it always seems to adapt! A beautiful wardrobe staple, stylish and relaxed, and I am proud of both its outward appearance and inward clean finish! The pattern is well designed and as an advanced sewist, I particularly like Style-Arc’s “assembly graphic”, always very straightforward and helpful!

How Do I Know What Size I Am?

Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.

  1. When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
  2. Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
  3. When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
  4. You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth

Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.

B. Upper Arm Girth

This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.

C. Bust

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.

D. Waist

This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.

E. Hip

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
