I haven’t had much success with knit sewing previously but the Astoria dress went together beautifully, I had 1 hiccup when I stitched the side tie on the wrong side and I need a bit more practise putting on a neckband. Overall I am pleased with how it went together, I will definitely make more. I made a size 18 added a little bit extra to accommodate my ample hips.

This Astoria dress was my first Style Arc pattern and although I was originally daunted by the brief instructions, it actually went together very well. The fit was spot on without any alterations for me. I’m please with it but not sure that the style suits me!

Astoria is my first Stylearc pattern. Easy to understand directions and the dress went together quickly. I made it during shelter-in-place and had to use what I had on hand-an old twin size sheet! I’ve already worn it twice. Very comfortable. I look forward to making it again out of a higher quality fabric.

I love this dress. It is so easy to make. I narrowed the shoulders a little and put two darts in the back to give a better shape. I made one dress to just below the knee and the second one I increased the skirt length to just above the ankle and it looks great. My first time to use Style Arc patterns and I was not disappointed. Looking forward to the next one.

I love this pattern! I love the ties in the front and even if it looks a bit challenging is so easy to make. The instructions are spot on!
I started with a size 10 for shoulders, 12 bust and back at 10 for waist and hips. Cut the back with a CB seam and scooped a bit at he the CB waist level. Also, I made a swayback adjustment. Based on my test garment I took the side seams in 1cm extra and I shortened the skirt by 5cm. Also, I made a narrow shoulders adjustment. ( all normal adjustments for my body) For the sleeves, I used the longest length and at the end took 20cm off 🙂 I love the dress!

I really like my completed dress. I appreciated Style Arc’s assistance in choosing my size. I cut a Size 10. My toile allowed me to see that the shoulders were too big. I made a narrow shoulder adjustment and raised the sleeve cap. This gave me a better fit for sewing the dress in a polyester jersey fabric. I wore the dress to a party, it was comfortable and chic – just what I wanted.
I found the written instructions a bit cryptic at times but researched the techniques I needed.

I like the dress. Cut a straight size 16, but unusually for my strawberry shape the shoulders were too big. Looking back at the line drawings there is a slight drop shoulder in the design, this does nothing for me so I altered the shoulders to be more fitted, which I think goes better with the slinky lines of the dress. Its easy to put together and comfortable to wear. Probably not suitable for directional fabric.

How Do I Know What Size I Am?
Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.
When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth
Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.
B. Upper Arm Girth
This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.
C. Bust
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.
D. Waist
This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.
E. Hip
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
