I really like these trousers. They fit well (Style Arc 14 fits me although I am usually a 16). I think they are very ‘designery’ . I am quite experienced at dressmaking and I find the sparse instructions a welcome challenge!

This was my first style arc pattern and I’m very happy with the result! While I’ve heard criticisms of the sparse instructions I’ve also heard rave reviews of the finished garments so I decided to see for myself. I also wanted to see if I’ve learned enough in my 6 months of sewing to put them together without having my hand held the entire time. In the end, it was very straightforward based on other pants I’ve made. The only thing I changed was to sew the tucks before I stay stitched the pockets. These pants are super comfy. I’ll definitely make more. I have the hope dress pattern ready and I’m excited to make it also!

I absolutely LOVE these pants. It’s the first time I’ve ever made a pattern more than once. I love the entire seam to the front, the leg narrows really nicely to the cuff without unnecessary bagginess, the waist fits fairly flat without too much bulk. There is a dropped crotch on these which I thought I would dislike but it adds to the style of them and I didn’t even adjust it in the subsequent pair. I used a cotton Lycra for both mine and made a 14 ( usually a 16 in rtw). If I used a less stretchy fabric I’d go up a size. The pattern went together perfectly. I am used to style arc instructions so I had no trouble following them. I did add a drawstring on both. You don’t need to as it has an elastic cased waistband but I think it adds to the style of the pant especially if wearing with a top tucked in. Thank you style arc. I def won’t stop at 2 with these. Really love them.

I like this pattern, especially the angled leg seam. But once again found the instructions to be lacking. Usually they have colour coded lines in their pictures as an assembly guide. But this pattern didn’t even have that. Even though it’s an easy pattern to sew, some more detailed pictures would have been helpful (especially the side pocket assembly).
I didn’t sew the channel for the cord around the waistband. This doesn’t make sense to me, as you use a rib for the waistband to give stretch, and if you sew a channel, there goes the ability for the waistband to stretch. I’ll see when I wear them whether the cord moves around too much. (I have the elastic and the cord sitting inside the ribbing, I may have to secure it at the centre back if it slides up).

How Do I Know What Size I Am?

Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.

  1. When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
  2. Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
  3. When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
  4. You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth

Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.

B. Upper Arm Girth

This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.

C. Bust

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.

D. Waist

This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.

E. Hip

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
