I made this in a wool knit as wanted to wear it in the winter. It was fairly easy to construct except for sewing the sleeve facing. I found a YouTube video that helped after a lot of experimenting with different ways to sew them. I finally succeeded.
I will definitely make it again in a linen or cotton, now I know how to do the sleeves it will be a lot easier.

The dress is absolutely lovely–I made it in large scale abstract printed linen, and I adore the finished product. I sized the sleeves up to match my measurements because they are small.

The only reason this dress does not get a 5-star review is the instructions for the sleeve/yoke. I’m experienced enough not to have problems with sparse instructions. However, but the instructions for the Melba sleeve/yoke lining are simply WRONG. If you place the lining inside the face fabric and sew both the neck and the sleeve openings together, you will never be able to turn the lining right side out.

To fix this problem, position the lining as if you are hemming the sleeves of a lined bagged jacket. After sewing the neck opening, pull the lining and face fabric apart so that the sleeves are NOT nested in each other at any place other than the opening where they will be sewn. Look for tutorials for “How to Bag a Jacket Lining” for help–the only difference is you won’t need to create an opening in the lining to turn it as the bottom of the facing isn’t stitched.

StyleArc, please take the time to correct the instructions or post a tutorial so that others can appreciate how lovely this dress is.

Haven’t managed to finish this dress yet. Have put it aside before I rip the whole thing to pieces. Just cannot understand the sleeve facing instructions and have ended up with a twisted mess. Will wait till I calm down before I unpick the first sleeve and find a way to do it. Otherwise it looks like a very nice frock..

I have made about 5 of this lovely dress. The pattern goes together really well, the fit is excellent and I get compliments when ever I wear it. Can one have too many of any particular pattern? I think not, as it looks great in a light summer weight cotton or blend or a heavier autumn weight tartan. Accompany it with boots or sandals it’s so versitle. Love it.

The dress drapes beautifully and looks great on full hips, in pink-red linen. It’s a shame the instructions at the joining of the yoke and sleeve and turning out are not clear or straight forward- I had to hack and add an upholstery edging to make the sleeves work. Would recommend Style Arc have a look at this as I notice I’m not the first one to comment on this. Will make it again but will have to think carefully about what I do for the sleeves, as for the life of me I cannot work it out.

Love this dress. The lining is clever and adds to a well made look. Will leave the pockets out on the next make.

I love a cocoon shaped dress so I’m very happy with this pattern. I sized up from my normal Style Arc size for this and it fitted me well as I like an oversized look. I made mine in a ponte knit. I modified the neckline to make a crew neck and added a ribbed band so omitted the bodice facing. I added small sleeve facings to the hem of the sleeves. I didn’t add the pockets as I thought they were likely to affect the drape as my fabric is quite thick. Mine is made for layering with a merino underneath for winter. A fast, easy make and super comfortable. I love the midi length. https://www.instagram.com/p/CS-lM5RhZ_P/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Easy to make and nice shape. If I make it again I will make the body a bit narrower and the armholes a little wider.

A lovely, straightforward pattern. I made it in Double Gauge organic cotton. Looks good and the pattern will be a wardrobe staple.

i like the style very much. i made this dress from a double gauze, so i dispensed with the self-lining. in addiiton, i added sleeves. the dress drapes beautifully and i get lots of compliments on it. I prefer a crew neck, so i just added a short zipper in the back seam so that it would fit over my head. my only complaint is that the Style Arc patterns do not have bust/waist/hip markings, so that the pockets and other important things usually end up in the wrong place for my short frame. I would give all their patterns a 5 star rating if they would only add those landmarks…

I love this dress! I made it in a border print with the border print of flowers at the top. It is easy to put together; from the chest up it is lined/interfaced which makes it extra comfortable to wear. The instructions on how to finish the sleeve seams are not sufficient but one can find a workaround. I have a forward set neck, so next time I make it (and I will!) I’ll drop the front neck an inch or so. Lots of compliments on this one.

How Do I Know What Size I Am?

Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.

  1. When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
  2. Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
  3. When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
  4. You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth

Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.

B. Upper Arm Girth

This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.

C. Bust

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.

D. Waist

This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.

E. Hip

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
