Slim line stretch woven pull-on pant sewing pattern with front pockets

Description

Looking for that perfect everyday pull-on pant? Our new Airlie Stretch Pant will fill that gap in your wardrobe. Airlie is a pull-on pant that sits flat on your waist with a slim straight-leg design.

The exciting addition to this pant is the functional angled front pockets – they do not gape and they sit flat up to the waist band. Airlie works perfectly in our famous bengaline fabric. Why not try it in one of our gorgeous bengaline colours!

Fabric Suggestion

Stretch Bengaline is perfect! You can buy Bengaline here at Style Arc. Any stretch woven with approx 5% spandex will work though. The stretch is to go around the body.

Trims

Elastic for waistband: width 4cm / 1½" (see elastic size chart)

I had a devil of a time with the pockets. The written instructions were useless. I watched the video about 6 times and finally gave up after lots of seam ripping, just sewing them any way I could so they’d look right. Now that the pants are finished I’m pretty pleased with them though. Not sure whether I’ll make this pattern again just because of the frustration level. Maybe with some modifications.

I wanted a stretch pant pattern suitable for a casual work pattern. I followed the video for the pocket and this helped immensely. The fit is brilliant. I made no alterations whatsoever. The sizing was spot on. Although I would never have done the pocket by instructions alone as they are way too brief at times.

I love this pattern and have made it 5 times now. It took a bit to get the pocket right, but I watched the video and that helped

I made these pants in a medium knit and they fitted perfectly. Size 16. Very flattering
fit and I left pockets off, but will try next pair with pockets.

Really awesome pattern. Pants feel great.

I read the reviews about the pockets being too small, so I went ahead and enlarged them. Of course, I went overboard and made them too big!

I recommend making a muslin of a pocket on scrap fabric to see how it gets turned. The instructions don’t explain it enough and the video, though better, is still confusing. If you make a muslin, it’ll all make sense.

Enlarging the pocket was tricky for me. The muslin was necessary!

This is a fantastic pants pattern. The first pair I made I put the pockets in. The you tube video made that a pretty easy task. However on subsequent (4) pairs I decided to leave them out as I probably wouldn’t use them and no one sees my waistband. I added 1/2 in to the width of the leg from just above the knee to just below. They now are a perfect fit. I made all with a ponte knit. The pattern is a keeper! I will make many more!

I was really pleased with the fit of these pants. They were quick to make and easy to sew. I put them into my wardrobe and forgot about them, silly me. Yesterday I finally wore them, they were comfortable and looked good. I will be making and wearing more.

I bought both the pattern and bengaline. Great fit, only had to lengthen them for my height. They fit well and the video is very helpful. Would recommend this pattern and fabric as well. I have found every Style Arc pants to be a good fit for me.

Wow, these are the first pair of pants I have sewn that fit with no alterations! Love them. As some of the other reviews suggested I did lengthen the pocket in the second pair I made and added a tiny bit to the length, but otherwise they are perfect. So comfortable and easy to sew up.

I agree with all of the other reviewers. This is my new favorite pants pattern. I have a perfect fit with the first try. This has a nice slim leg, without being leggings, exactly what I was looking for; and POCKETS!

The overall fit was good, but found the pocket a bit small. I would probably make the pocket deeper. It is a very stylish pocket and was easy to construct.

A great pull on pant pattern. The addition of pockets that don’t gape is really clever. I highly recommend following the video tutorial to sew the pockets and ignore the written instructions for those steps. I achieved a perfect finish on the pockets this way. Once I had sewn the pockets once, it was easy on the next pair.

I love this pant. It needed just a couple of changes and it fits perfectly. It’s comfortable stylist and easy to sew. Once you make one pair you will want more. I scooped out of the back crotch to take care of my lower bottom curve and added a tad to the front for a little bit of a rounded tummy. On the second pair I cut pocket a little deeper.

How Do I Know What Size I Am?

Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.

  1. When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
  2. Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
  3. When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
  4. You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth

Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.

B. Upper Arm Girth

This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.

C. Bust

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.

D. Waist

This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.

E. Hip

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
