This jeans pattern is perfect! I actually used to to draft a Tommie style skirt for my 9 year old daughter and it was a great way to test the fit. It came together very well, although I do prefer a larger seam allowance than 1cm when making jeans just so there is more space when topstitching and you can catch it properly underneath. That said though it worked, we have a denim skirt that she adores and so now I can go ahead and make the jeans as jeans and also adapt for shorts.
Jeans only look complicated to make but what is the most complicating is the number of steps. The actual sewing and method of construction isn’t hard. Denim is a durable fabric to work with and it behaves very well. I recommend denim with no stretch for this pattern. I can see a beautiful corduroy pair for the cooler months.
