You will love this casual sheath dress, a must have piece in your wardrobe with its simple silhouette and its very slight “A” line shape. The cute round neck and in seam pockets makes this style perfect for those sunny days. Why not dress it up for that special and make it in a silk or brocade?

I am between sizes and made the smaller size. My fabric was a drapey loose weave linen that frayed badly and wish I had thought about this before cutting out, seam allowances around the back neck opening are tiny. I should have reinforced the outer fabric around the bottom of the neck opening, this would have made a much neater opening. Also the weight of the pockets pulled down the dress at the sides, and the rocket seams looked stretched and rippled. again I should have used seam tape to reinforce the openings. I ended up removing the pockets altogether. Probably if I had used a firm wave fabric neither of these issues would have occurred.
I also lengthened the dress by around 7cm. I also changed the neckline making it slightly deeper as I am not keen on clothing being tight around the neck.
The dress fits me perfectly around the bust and under arms without any alterations and I now have a lovely summer dress albeit without pockets.

Excellent basic shift pattern. I made one in cotton lawn and one in rayon. I modified pattern by omitting button opening and making a 3cm wide facing for neck, which I topstitched to secure, and made self fabric bias binding for the armholes. I also narrowed the shoulder seams. An accurate size 8 for me. Lovely cool summer dress.
Only required minor adjustments to shoulder line, bust dart size and placement along with small armhole adjustment. Altered neck and sleeve facing to style more familiar with and ease of application. Post adjustments, the dress has a great line and hangs lovely. Extended skirt length too.

The instructions for handling the facings was totally inadequate. Three steps were provided in the pattern, against 16 steps in your blog post on the same subject.
There is a contradiction in your instructions on the placement of the loop. The written instructions say right side and your diagram says left side.
The fit is good, but as mentioned in other reviews above, more thought needs to be given to larger sizes. The bust dart in my size (22) is angled no where near my bust point.
I will make this pattern again, and expect that now I have found complete instructions, it will be a better experience next time.

This is a great basic pattern! Check your head circumference to see if adding the closure slit and button are needed at the back. It is cute, but not everyone is a fan of back of neck buttons. You could also do ties, though. Pattern design and instructions worked well for me. I made this in a bold print and hope to use this design more in future. It is well drafted.

How Do I Know What Size I Am?
Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.
When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth
Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.
B. Upper Arm Girth
This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.
C. Bust
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.
D. Waist
This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.
E. Hip
This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.

Absolutely love the fit, needed no alterations (which is ALWAYS a plus for me!) However, even after sewing for MANY years, the facings gave me some difficulty. It turned out fine, but there was definitely a struggle along the way. Also, do not like the way the pockets were constructed, so will do them my own way next time. Will definitely make the dress again.

I love this pattern and I’ve made it 3 times – two dresses (one lined, one with facings) and a tunic top. Each time I have completed the shoulder seams differently as I can’t for the life of me figure out how to turn the shoulders. I would love to see a video tutorial on this aspect of the pattern. The fit is great, I’ll be making it again.

I have made two of these. Instead of facings I have fully lined the top half. Absolutely lovely pattern. Great fit as always with Style Arc. Excellent pattern.

Easy to understand, good sizing, as someone else already said the facing was a bit tricky couldnt understand how to do the shoulder seams,
Did have to make alterations though as I ordered a size bigger than I needed as most patterns I think come up small.
I’d order patterns again. Many thanks

Lovely sleeveless dress with a great shape. Full neck and sleeve facing a bit tricky but once mastered looks fantastic. The fit is also excellent… true to size!
