I purchased this pattern in June 2021 and have only just got around to making it up. What a great pattern. Once the pockets were in it went together very quickly. The only alteration I made was to make the sleeves 1.5 inches shorter which is normal for me. Will definitely be making it again.

I have made 2 of these dresses so far – one in a stretchy lycra blend and one in a ponte type knit – and both are wonderful dresses that flatter my figure and both have been complimented. I am a petite plus size, and made up both dresses according to my measurements. The only alteration was to narrow the shoulder width slightly.
Initially I wasn’t sure about including the diagonals, but I am really glad I did. The dress went together very quickly after the pockets were done. I found the instructions very clear, and the most complicated bit was doing the cutting layout.
I will definitely be making more of these.

Easy to follow pattern and really like the fit, very comfortable to wear. As others have said I would alter the neck to make it a little lower next time.

I have made two dresses in this design – one patterned and one plain – using very stretchy fabrics which drape beautifully. They have turned out really well and I get lots of compliments about them. The only alteration I made was to the neckline as it was too high for me but other than that the pattern is perfect.

Loved this cocoon dress pattern. The pockets were easy–thought they might be hard. I made mine from an aubergine knit and it looks great.

I made this up in a lovely drapey teal ponte roma and it came out very well. I made a mistake cutting it out and had to piece the middle section at the back to get it out of the fabric allowance. A cutting layout would have been helpful. The cocoon shape is very full at the hips and I might just reduce it a little on the next one. I also feel the neckline is a bit high for me and so i might tweak it there too. Despite these minor issues I will definitely be making this one again. I love Style Arc patterns as they are well drafted and always come out as you expect.

How Do I Know What Size I Am?

Choosing your pattern size is the most important step and we will help you determine this with these easy to follow steps.

  1. When taking your measurements ensure that you take them against your skin and not over clothing. One can wear a comfortable bra and knickers whilst measuring, as this will provide you with the most accurate measurements.
  2. Tape measure has to sit firmly around the points you are measuring. But be careful not to pull it too tight, as this will give you the incorrect size.
  3. When measuring circumferences (B, C, D, E) it is important to note that the tape measure must remain parallel to the floor. It is sometimes best to take the measurements in front of a mirror; this will help you see the angle of the tape measure.
  4. You will only require the basic body measurements to determine your pattern size which is indicated on our mannequin below:
A. Shoulder Breadth

Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder. Measure along the top of the shoulder blade/across the highest point of the shoulders to the other edge, following the natural slope and allow an extra finger for ease of any movement.

B. Upper Arm Girth

This point is taken as a circumference at your widest point of your upper arm.

C. Bust

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the fullest part of your chest.

D. Waist

This point is taken as a circumference and taken at the smallest part of your waist.

E. Hip

This point is taken as a circumference parallel to the floor at the widest part of your hips.
